About the Clinical Trials Group
We are based in the Department of Surgery at University College, London and some of the staff have been involved in major cancer trials in breast (and other sites) for more than 20 years. We were one of the first groups to evaluate the role of radiotherapy following mastectomy in the 1970s, subsequently showing the detriment to long-time survivors with left sided tumours that has now been confirmed by the Oxford overview. We further evaluated the role of radiotherapy in patients who had local excision but were also treated with tamoxifen. We have also been very active in the endocrine management of early disease?initially with tamoxifen but now continuing with an important role in the ATAC and ZIPP trials.
